چکیده

Recent researches present that packet-mode scheduling may provide overall performance advantages over cell-mode scheduling in input queueing switches. But one significant drawback of existing packet-mode schedulers is that they tend to result in longer waiting time of short packets, whose delay is critical to the performance of IP networks. To mitigate the problem, this paper proposes a simple but effective packetmode scheduling algorithm called Short Packets First (SPF), studies the corresponding buffering architecture, and evaluates the performance on throughput and packet delay. SPF achieves 100% throughput under an accurate Internet traffic model. Theoretical analysis proves that SPF can reduce the average packet waiting time of short packets as well as overall packets, under the condition of uniform Poisson arrival process and low to medium offered load. Furthermore, extended simulation studies show that SPF is superior to general packet-mode and cell-mode scheduling, especially under heavy offered load. q 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Preemptive Packet-Mode Scheduling to Improve TCP Performance

Recent Internet traffic measurements show that 60% of the total packets are short packets, which include TCP acknowledgment and control segments. These short packets make a great impact on the performance of TCP. Unfortunately, short packets suffer from large delay due to serving long data packets in switches running in the packet mode, i.e. a packet is switched in its entirety. To optimize TCP...

Cross-layer Packet-dependant OFDM Scheduling Based on Proportional Fairness

This paper assumes each user has more than one queue, derives a new packet-dependant proportional fairness power allocation pattern based on the sum of weight capacity and the packet’s priority in users’ queues, and proposes 4 new cross-layer packet-dependant OFDM scheduling schemes based on proportional fairness for heterogeneous classes of traffic. Scenario 1, scenario 2 and scenario 3 lead r...

Designinga Neuro-Sliding Mode Controller for Networked Control Systems with Packet Dropout

This paper addresses control design in networked control system by considering stochastic packet dropouts in the forward path of the control loop. The packet dropouts are modelled by mutually independent stochastic variables satisfying Bernoulli binary distribution. A sliding mode controller is utilized to overcome the adverse influences of stochastic packet dropouts in networked control system...

Design of Sliding mode control for stochastic systems subject to packet losses

In this paper, we examine the design of a sliding mode control for stochastic systems with data packet losses. It is assumed that there is a network connection in the system's feedback loop and that part of the information may be lost during transmission. The innovation of this paper is to peresent a new method with better  performance In this paper, we first consider an estimated method to com...

Design and Performance Evaluation of Scheduling Algorithms for Unslotted CSMA/CA with Backoff MAC Protocols in Multiple-Access WDM Ring Networks

The unslotted Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) with backoff is a fully distributed, asynchronous Media Access Control (MAC) protocol for multiple-access Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) ring networks with simplicity and robustness comparable to those of Ethernet [1], [2]. In this paper we present the results of performance evaluation of four scheduling algo...
